Originally from a small town in Norway, Sigrid looks set to take over the world with her take on punchy pop. And her debut single, “Don’t Kill My Vibe”, attests to that. With over 15 millions plays the song - about tedious and pushy music industry types trying to restrain her creativity – is fast becoming an anthem. After an initial taste, we’re waiting with baited breath for the album, but before that we get to know the girl behind the music a bit better.
“Don’t Kill My Vibe” was written in a session with a producer who has become a good friend of mine. He asked me what I’d been thinking about, what had been on my mind and I told him about a previous writing session I’d had. I was much younger than the other people in the session and I just remembered feeling so small. I just powered through for two days without saying anything. “Don’t Kill My Vibe” came out of that.
You have to speak up!
That writing session was the only one for me that was really difficult. I’ve been writing since I was 16 and of course back then I had no idea about the industry behind the music. As an industry it could definitely improve but my personal experiences are positive. None of the things that are happening for me as an artist now would happen to me without my team. They are just so amazing. It’s kind of a family – from the US to the UK to Germany and here in Norway.
Nothing’s changed too much really. My parents are amazing, they are so supportive, my biggest fans. And my siblings are too, both my older brother and older sister. And I’m still hanging out with my friends from high school. And I’m traveling with my band who happen to be my best friends too so it’s all good!
The music that is coming out is definitely in the same soundscape as “Don’t Kill My Vibe”. Were just finishing off my EP, which will be on the way soon!
