Daniel Briskin is the R&B newcomer that we’ve all been waiting for. Inspired by his idol Frank Ocean, he creates the kind of music that washes over you and gets stuck in your head in the best possible way – and if you need any convincing of that, then drop what you’re doing and listen to “Come With Me” right now. Here, we catch up with the 17-year-old wunderkind to talk dancing and deserts before asking him to curate the smoothest R&B playlist on the Internet.
I never really bought an album, but I think the first ever album I listened to properly was Forest Hills Drive by J. Cole. I remember hearing it and just wanting to listen to more projects and not only singles
“Facts” from The Life of Pablo by Kanye West actually gets me so hyped. I love it so much - really makes me want to just get up.
“Strawberry Fields Forever” by The Beatles because it’s just such an amazing tune. The writing just feels so personal and introspective.
My mum, not gonna lie. I was asking her which tent I should buy for a trip I’m going on.
I think the desert. I stayed for a night in a Bedouin tent in Israel and honestly it was such an amazing experience. Watching the sun set and come up in such a serene place is so amazing honestly.
I’ve recently bought a cool short-sleeved shirt. I love wearing it out as it’s so versatile and can really be worn anywhere.
Nick Drake’s Pink Moon is an album that I really resonate with. I think the songs are so amazing and they all come together as a cohesive project.
I’d say musically, Frank Ocean. I think by now everyone knows how much I admire his work and the way that he can convey a message.
Soulful, smooth, personal
Well, I have a new track on the way so look out for that, but I don’t wanna say much more than that. It’s all very exciting though, so definitely keep your eyes peeled.
