Singer, songwriter and dancer Amelia Payne is originally from Barbados but has now moved to London and is poised to be music’s newest superstar, fusing her Caribbean heritage with thumping pop beats. We talk sunshine and style with her.
To be completely honest I can't remember the first album I ever bought. The first couple albums I remember listening to must have been Chris Brown, Usher, Mary J Blige and Mariah Carey to name a few.
My sound is a solid mixture between R&B and pop with an edge to it, sometimes bringing in my Caribbean roots.
I wouldn't say I have a musical hero exactly, but there are many different artists that are an inspiration to me. I see artists such as a Beyoncé as an inspiration for instance. The way she's built herself in the industry to be one of the best female vocalists today is a big inspiration.
Honestly it changes all the time depending on my mood. I definitely have two sides to my style; either find me in trainers and a hoodie or in full glam with heels and a dress. My mum has had a big influence on my style but apart from that I would say my style icons would have to be Rihanna, Beyoncé and Zendaya.
The most treasured thing in my wardrobe is my jewellery. You'll never catch me without any of my bracelets or multiple necklaces on.
When I'm in London I think I miss my family and friends, the weather and the overall laid back island vibes Barbados gives. Barbados really grounds me and brings me back to reality. I always feel really settled back home.
When it comes to London I think what I miss most about it when I'm in Barbados is of course my friends but the city life in general. I absolutely love the busy-ness of London and what it has to offer. There are so many places to discover and things to do. I still don't feel like I know London the best I possibly could and I've been living here for almost 4 years now...I feel like I learn something new almost every day.
