We countdown the five albums to get excited for this season.
The upcoming fifth album from rock heroes The Killers will arrive on September 22, five years years after their last release, Battle Born. Titled Wonderful Wonderful, frontman Brandon Flowers has hinted at a heavier sound and composition, but if lead single “The Calling” is anything to go by, the album has hit written all over it.
Last month the lo-fi creative twins Ibeyi announced their new album Ash, a follow up to their self-titled debut, which will be released on September 29. Inspired by the likes of Frank Ocean and James Blake, it will feature collaborations with Kasami Washington and Chilly Gonzalez. Lead track “Deathless”, which features Washington promises to be a song “for everybody that feels like they are nothing, that feels small or not cared about”, and was written after Lisa-Kaindé’s wrongful arrest in France when she was a teenager.
This year has seen one-time bad girl Miley Cyrus reinvent herself once again, returning to music with a more wholesome sound and image that draws from her country roots. Following singles “Malibu” and “Younger Now” Miley’s sixth album, also titled “Younger Now” will be released at the end of September. It is apparently heavily influenced by the singer’s reconciliation with fiancé Liam Hemsworth with album artwork that heavily draws from retro country fashion.
Though she has been releasing highly acclaimed music on the Internet for more than four years now, Kelela has yet to release a debut album. On October 6 though, that is all set to change with Take Me Apart, the debut album that Kelela has been working on for four years. Inspired by jazz, R&B and artists like Bjork, the first single “LMK” has given us a taster, and now we’re hungry for more.
Cult musician and fashion icon St. Vincent sent fans into a spin with the announcement of her fifth solo record in early September, announced in line with new single “Los Angeles. Titled MASSEDUCTION – pronounced ‘Mass Seduction’ - the album is set for release on October 13, and according to the musician is only about love.
